A little bit of history.
Hey there! So this is just a quick post to share a new video I made. I kind of have this hobby for video editing. I got bored and was thinking back on all of the reunions John and I have had. Disclaimer: I would either read or watch first (probably read); reading and stopping will take away from the effect of the video. :)
The first few clips you see are from John's boot camp family day and graduation. This was us just starting out in our "military relationship." It was three months apart - nothing but letters (which I still have in a book that I made). We missed Valentine's Day and my senior prom, but that's okay (we had a blast at my junior prom)! He graduated boot camp at Paris Island, SC on May 6, 2011. Wow! What an emotional and proud day!
The next few pictures (where John is wearing cammies) are from his Marine Combat Training (MCT) graduation. It was a month long with nothing but two letters. They are in the field most of the time, so mail is slow, and they don't have much time to write. Over that time he missed seeing his sister and I graduate high school and my 18th birthday. This day was extra fun because I told him I wasn't going to be able to make it to the family day (which his family was) but that I would try to make it the next day for graduation. It was a successful surprise! June 14, 2011 in Jacksonville, NC.
After that, he went off to Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) school in Twentynine Palms, CA; this is where he was trained for his job. It was nice because we could finally have somewhat of normal communication. Only a 3 hour time difference to account for. After about three months over there, he was able to take leave for a week. He used that to surprise his family! Only his aunt and myself knew about it. I picked up John from ILM airport and drove to good ole' Ayden, NC! The woman you see screaming "omg! omg! omg!" is his mother. Needless to say, she was surprised! John is such a momma's boy. :) It was a great visit and something that will never be forgotten. (Oh and the young blond girl is his litter sister, Sarah. She wasn't at the cookout so she didn't know he was home. She was bawling! She loves her big brother.) July 4, 2011.
Back to school he went! He finished up his school around the time that I was just starting mine. College! He did awesome in his schooling and also picked up rank while there (Private First Class). This was also the time when his future duty station would be determined. Wow.. this is even hard to type. *sigh* here goes. So.. he wanted to get somewhere like Camp Lejeune (which is only 40 minutes from where I am), but of course the military doesn't always give you what you want. During the time that John was being placed, the Marine Corps needed a large number of new Marines in Okinawa, Japan. So guess what? That's what he got. I still remember the day he called me to deliver the news. We were both devastated. It's a weird feeling when your heart is breaking for the one you love, and you want to make them feel better, but you can't even console yourself? It was a quiet phone call; not much needed to be said. We decided to just take things as they came. People have asked me.. and no, I never once thought about leaving him - not when he joined and not when this happened. So! (the first airport clip you see is) After three more months, John graduated school and came home for four short days (of which I saw him two, thanks school!) But like always, we made the best of it! September 10, 2011.
Then, it was hello Okinawa! Now this was an adjustment. It is a 13 hour time difference. But we have a schedule now and since John is such a great boyfriend and really puts effort into our relationship, we talk all the time! :) Sorry to get all sappy on you guys but I just want to say I am SO proud of him! He has been through SO much and is still the same amazing man I fell in love with. While he was gone he also picked up his next rank, Lance Corporal. He has now been to Korea twice (which are the pictures you see of him boarding a ship, sleeping on the ground, etc). He had to miss his 20th birthday at home, our 2 year anniversary, Christmas, New Years, Valentine's Day, Easter, and all the other things that went on while he was away. Then came the best homecoming yet! (the second airport clip) After NINE looooong months, he finally got to take leave! He was home for about three weeks and we loved every minute of it! We went to Myrtle Beach with his family, enjoyed going to church, some date nights, hanging out, everything! Everything any regular couple would take for granted, we value x10. I mean, just look at our smiles! June 1, 2012.

No More Fat Girl!
Soooo.. I guess I'm ready to share something that I've really been focusing on lately.
Last year alone I gained a whopping 30 POUNDS! What the heck?! Maybe I'll write a post about what really made me gain the weight.. but for now I'll just say depression, a food addiction, laziness, and stress. I hate it. I went to college hoping to lose the 20 or so pounds I was already unhappy about but instead double the typical "freshman 15." Great.
So now I'm working on getting back in shape and, I'm not gonna lie, getting the body I've always wanted. It's not just being "skinny" or something, but about being healthy. I hope to lose about 50-60 pounds before my 20th birthday (June 3, 2013). So stay tuned!
I'm also on pinterest and obsessed with workout posts, and LOTS of other stuff!

Christmas visit? Who knows.
So I never know when I will see John again, and it's gets kind of old. The military is so hard to work with sometimes. Since he took leave this summer, he isn't allowed to take it again anytime soon. However, he was thinking about doing some R.A. (recruiters assistance) this Christmas. He would come home for about two weeks and help the recruiters in Greenville go out and recruit new marines. It would be nice, obviously, because we would get to see each other! And he also wouldn't have to use any of his official leave days, but he would have to pay for his plane ticket. Who cares?! There's no price tag for time spent together! I'm not getting my hopes up though. Because as I said.. the military can be a pain. The sgt that controls whether he can come or not has been in a constant bad mood for months. That's all I have to say about that. If he doesn't come home this December, it will probably be a year before we see each other again. Friday, July 27, 2012
Summer Update
So summer classes are over and I couldn't be happier! I took Statistics and Creative writing - wow, can you say WORK! I'm glad I did it though. I was nervous about what summer classes are like, you know, squeezing 16 weeks of normal semester work into 16 days of class. I think the fact that I'm also working (at Lowe's Foods) quite a bit made it even harder, too.
I've been trying to think about what I should say regarding John and me.
So, he is stationed in Okinawa, Japan. It's not what we wanted, but that's life in the military for ya. He will be there for no more than two years. I'm very excited to say that he is coming up on his one year mark, September 15! Next year around that time he should be moving to a new station, which we hope will be Camp Lejeune. If he were to be in Jacksonville, NC that means he is only a short 45 minute drive from me! Currently, we keep in touch by texting every day and skyping sometimes on the weekend. The time distance is hard - he is 13 hours ahead - but we've adjusted.
I would say the hardest adjustment is homecomings. We get used to going months without seeing each other, keeping our relationship as real as possible, but it's a big change being together again. I probably can't explain it well enough.. When we're together again, we click as if we were never apart.. but there are some things that are different. To give you an example, John is around all guys and they are kind of rough with each other, so being with me he has to remember to be more sensitive. I am independent and a big planner, so when he's home and things get hectic, it can be hard. Don't get me wrong, we LOVE being together and it's horrible being away from each other! John is such a great guy and my best friend, so we always figure it out!
I'm not really sure what else other are curious about? I get questions about my relationship all the time, but I can't think of anything right now. So if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in a comment. I'm sure I'll think of more to share :)

Marine Girlfriend
I think this blog will also be a good spot for me to educate/share with others what it is like to be in a relationship with a United States Marine. If anyone has any questions, ever, I don't mind sharing. :)
